What Well Haven can do for you:

Reduce hospitalizations

Evaluation and recommendations by occupational therapists have proven to reduce hospital readmissions more than any other treatment due to its unique focus on social and functional needs.

Rethink where you age

Nursing homes and assisted living facilities are costly and the majority of older adults want to remain at home as they age. We can help you adjust your living environment to better suit your needs to increase your ability to do what you love and help you thrive at home. Home safety evaluations and design are available to help you age in place.

Care for loved ones with dementia

Emily is certified in dementia care and provides education and training for caregivers who are responsible for the safety and well-being of loved ones with dementia. She provides education on dementia, communication strategies, home safety, fall prevention, ways to improve a loved one’s ability to complete self care, stress management for caregivers, and more.

Emily Byl, Owner and Occupational Therapist

Hello! I am Emily, a certified and licensed occupational therapist living in Anchorage, Alaska. Since graduating with my Masters in Occupational Therapy, I have worked in inpatient acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, acute care hospitals, schools, home health and telehealth settings with patients from birth to 100 years old. I am certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment, Dementia Care, and I have earned the Executive Certificate in Home Modification from the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology.

I was inspired to create my private practice to help older adults in Alaska live well, despite disability, in part due to the lack of resources I witnessed working in an Anchorage hospital. I felt for the patients who were discharged home and did not have access to support in their community, or if they did, it was too difficult to travel too.

I have also been inspired by my grandparents, Dien, Gerrit, and Margaret. When my grandma Dien and grandpa Gerrit began to decline cognitively and physically, I witnessed first-hand the challenges families face to provide a safe yet dignified environment for loved ones. Although at that time I was not yet an OT, it made a lasting impact on me and gave me direction in my career.

My grandma Margaret (Midge) is fortunate enough to have had long-term health insurance that has been crucial as she has developed Alzheimer’s Disease and now needs 24-hour care. I am very aware most older adults are not as fortunate, and it’s my goal to help patients and their families navigate old age in the most honorable and functional way possible.

Outside of work, I love exploring Alaska’s wild places, drinking coffee, reading and spending time with family and my dogs.
